SESAC - Together for global access to safe anaesthesia and surgery
SESAC is a non-profit organization founded in 2023 aiming at improving surgical and anesthesia services in Ethiopia and in Sweden. SESAC is economically freestanding, politically and religiously independent. SESAC operates with full accountability, sound management of resources and alignment with national regulations. SESAC was founded in 2023 and originates from activities in Ethiopia conducted by the International Medical Program, University Hospital Linköping, County Council of Östergötland, Sweden which since many years back has operated exchange programs for health care professionals between Sweden and low and lower middle-income countries.
The overall aim of SESAC is to strengthen and improve general surgery including cancer surgery as well as intensive care and anesthesia services in Ethiopia by transfer of knowledge and skill, primarily through exchange of health care professionals between the key partner University of Gondar Specialized Tertiary Referral Hospital (UoGSTRH) in the Amhara region and Swedish hospitals. More specifically, a project governed by partnership, reciprocity and joint learning is intended to be launched aspiring to build capacity on colorectal cancer management along with better intensive care and anesthesia services in the UoGSTRH area (7 million) and ultimately in the entire Amhara-region (32 million).
